Bond counsel and local government specialist augments firm’s strength in public finance

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. — Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman announces that Lori Smith-Lalla has joined the firm.   She will be based in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office, and brings vast experience in public finance and bond transactions.

“For more than 20 years, Lori has provided outstanding legal service in public financing and bond transactions throughout Florida,” said Mitch Burnstein, Managing Director of the firm. “Public finance is a growing practice area for our firm, so we’re thrilled to have someone of Lori’s caliber and reputation join us.”

Smith-Lalla, who is board certified in City, County & Local Government Law by the Florida Bar, most recently was affiliated with Greenberg Traurig, where she focused on public finance.  Before that, she worked for five years at Squire Patton Boggs.

Prior to her tenures at these two firms, Smith-Lalla served as issuer’s counsel for Broward County on bond issues for the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades, and the Broward County Convention Center – as well as on water and sewer and general obligation bonds.

A resident of Coral Ridge in east Ft. Lauderdale, Smith-Lalla recently completed Class XXXVIII of Leadership Broward.  She continues to work with the group, hosting a government and finance program for the next class.
