Legal Aid Service of Broward County Receives $1,000 Grant from Greater Fort Lauderdale Pride, Inc.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (June 5, 2018) – Legal Aid Service of Broward County (LAS) has been awarded a $1,000 grant from Greater Fort Lauderdale Pride, Inc. as a valued service provider to the LGBTQ community. This community grant will support the LAS coalition and alliance building project within Broward County. Legal Aid was one of 30 applicants and only 15 of those applicants received grants.

“We are honored to work with Pride Fort Lauderdale,” said Patrice Paldino, supervising attorney at LAS. “This funding allows us to continue meaningful dialogues to build strong collaborations among LGBTQ and mainstream organizations to better meet existing and emerging needs.”

In October 2017, with generous support from the Florida Bar Foundation, LAS hosted the first of its kind LGBTQ Legal Aid Summit in Fort Lauderdale. Legal Aid and LGBTQ organizations throughout the State gathered to learn about the legal needs of the LGBTQ community and discuss goals and experiences.

The Pride Fort Lauderdale Community Grant funds will enable LAS to host a follow-up breakfast for Legal Aid and local Broward County LGBTQ agencies to continue leading Florida in advancing equality through collaboration. The meeting will bring together local LGBTQ agencies, AIDS Service Organizations and Legal Aid to discuss, and ultimately address, community needs.

The mission and vision of Greater Fort Lauderdale Pride, Inc. is to educate the community by invoking, promoting, and celebrating lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender pride and to solidify and empower our community to work together toward a culture of diversity and acceptance.
