MIAMI – Elisa D’Amico, a partner in the Miami office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP, will be instated as the 39th president of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (MDFAWL) for the 2019-2020 term.
The Hon. Daniel A. Casey, 17th Judicial Circuit, Broward County, Florida, will administer the oath to D’Amico and the incoming officers and board of directors on June 4, 2019 at the JW Marriott Marquis in downtown Miami. A white-attire affair will commemorate the centennial of the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment by Congress, granting women the right to vote and will celebrate all of the trailblazing women who have fought and continue to fight for gender equality. K&L Gates will serve as the event’s title sponsor.
As MDFAWL president, D’Amico seeks to further the organization’s mission of supporting the professional advancement of women lawyers and the promotion of women’s rights. She also seeks to make strides at increasing the number of women and minority lawyers in leadership positions and on the bench, to have comprehensive programming and intimate discussions about gender bias, intersectionality, and mental health, and to continue to fight against sexual cyberharassment through pro bono work lobbying efforts, and education.
D’Amico is a litigation partner at K&L Gates and, in 2018, co-founded the firm’s Digital Crisis Planning & Response client solution. In that role, she counsels corporations, educational institutions, and high-profile individuals in proactively planning for and effectively managing digital crisis situations, on social media and elsewhere online, and she also fights internet-based abuse such as invasions of privacy, cyber harassment, fraud, and other unfair and deceptive acts and practices.
In 2014, D’Amico co-founded K&L Gates’ Cyber Civil Rights Legal Project (CCRLP), which provides pro bono legal help to victims of sexual cyberharassment. Since its inception and under her management, the CCRLP has helped thousands of individuals regain their online identities and reclaim their lives. D’Amico has won numerous awards for her innovative pro bono work, including being awarded The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Pro Bono Service Award in 2015, The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award in 2019, and the Fordham Law Alumni Association Rising Star Award in 2019.
