FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Fisher Phillips attorney Lisa McGlynn recently presented valuable information to church leaders as part of an ongoing, complimentary webinar series covering the biggest labor and employment issues for religious institutions.

 

McGlynn’s most recent presentation, titled “Misclassifications: Are your exempt employees really exempt?  What are ’independent contractors?’” discussed how churches must be compliant and properly classify and pay each employee.  She explored the various subtleties and often misunderstood elements of deeming a worker as an independent contractor and provided important advice to clarify what is necessary for exempt and non-exempt status.

 

Her next webinar, scheduled for March 14, 2018, is titled “Is your volunteer a liability?”

 

McGlynn defends employers in state and federal court litigation and arbitration in a wide range of employment-related claims, including claims arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Florida Civil Rights Act, and the Florida Private Whistleblower Act.  She also represents employers charged with employment discrimination before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Florida Commission on Human Relations, the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings, and various local agencies. Additionally, she counsels clients on general employment law issues as they arise to ensure compliance with employment laws.

 

McGlynn is admitted to the Florida Bar, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Southern, Northern and Middle Districts of Florida.  She is active with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

 

A graduate of the University of Florida, McGlynn received her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, and her juris doctor, also cum laude, from the university’s College of Law.
