FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Edward G. Guedes, member at Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman, has been elected President of the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society,
a nonprofit, statewide organization committed to making sure people understand the importance of a strong, independent judiciary in the governmental balance of power. Members are dedicated to educating citizens about the courts’ vital role in government and to preserving Florida’s judicial history.
“I look forward to working with everyone at the Historical Society who share a common passion for educating the public on the importance of the judiciary in our society,” said Guedes.
Guedes is the Chair of Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman’s Appellate Practice Group and is Board Certified in Appellate Practice by The Florida Bar. His broad appellate practice encompasses significant representations in fields as diverse as medical malpractice defense, premises liability defense, intellectual property, land use and zoning law, election law, constitutional law, civil rights law, and employment and labor defense, to name a few. He is also chief appellate and trial support counsel for a national supermarket chain concerning all their premises liability cases in South Florida.
Guedes has held leadership positions in The Florida Bar Appellate Court Rules Committee and the Dade County Bar Association’s Appellate Court Committee. He is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades from his professional peers, having been recognized year over year in The Best Lawyers in America, Florida Super Lawyers Magazine and Florida Legal Elite Top Lawyers. He holds an AV Preeminent 5.0 Rating from Martindale Hubbell and is included in this year’s Chambers USA for his skilled work as an appellate attorney.
He earned his B.A. and graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College, and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
