Fort Lauderdale, FL. – Walter “Skip” Campbell, Mayor of Coral Springs, and Mike Ryan, Mayor of Sunrise, participated in two important panels at the Florida Chamber Foundation’s “Learners to Earners Education Summit.”  Both were invited by the Florida Afterschool Network and are partners at the law firm of Krupnick Campbell Malone Buser Slama Hancock Liberman, PA.

The Florida Chamber Foundation’s 2017 “Learners to Earners Education Summit” connected Florida’s business community, workforce professionals and education thought leaders with interactive discussions on how to connect today’s learners to tomorrow’s career opportunities.  Florida Afterschool Network works to establish and enhance high-quality statewide afterschool programs and policies. Their vision is to ensure accessible and affordable afterschool options are available to every child.

Campbell spoke on, “Afterschool & Summer Learning Works for Parents, Kids and the Economy” regarding an innovative summer program involving the Coral Springs Police Department. “I am so proud of the police officers of the Coral Springs Police Department for this innovative program,” explained Campbell.  “Providing a safe and free summer camp hosted by police officers not only creates a fun and educational summer for the students, but brings our department and youth closer together.”

Ryan spoke on, “Expanded Learning Opportunities: City Partnerships” regarding the effort to introduce scholastic chess in the community through private partnerships.  “Our work in Sunrise to build a coalition of partners behind the scholastic chess program allows us to leverage the best of our community to make a difference for years to come,” said Ryan.  “Our Sunrise Center for Excellence in Chess will hopefully become a template for other municipalities to build their own program aimed at improving critical thinking skills, developing social skills and improving academic performance for the next generation.”
