TREASURE COAST, FL – June 4, 2020 – Nason Yeager Gerson Harris & Fumero P.A. attorneys John Fumero and Carlyn Kowalsky presented at the annual Treasure Coast League of Cities (TCLC) Local Governmental Law 101 class – pursuant to Florida Statutes, this is a mandatory class for municipal elected officials and other local government officials concerning the topics of Florida’s Public Records Act, Florida Ethics law and Florida’s Sunshine/Open meeting laws.
Elected officials from 14 municipalities took part in the Zoom webinar. On an annual basis, elected officials are required to complete this four-hour training. The interactive course was comprised of a series of lectures from Fumero and Kowalsky on latest requirements regarding ethics, public records and public meetings law and case law.
A primary mission of the TCLC is to promote communication among the municipalities and the municipal leaders of the Treasure Coast region. The 14 cities within the TCLC include Fellsmere, Fort Pierce, Indian River Shores, Indiantown, Jupiter Island, Ocean Breeze, Okeechobee, Orchid, Port St. Lucie, Sebastian, Sewalls Point, Stuart, St. Lucie Village and Vero Beach.
Fumero and Kowalsky, for over three decades, have provided strategic legal counsel to a wide array of public sector clients throughout the State of Florida. Both serve as general and special counsel to various cities, counties, state agencies and special taxing districts. Fumero is board certified in State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice by The Florida Bar, and is a Florida Supreme Court certified mediator. He formerly served as General Counsel of the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). Kowalsky has been practicing law for over 33 years and previously held the position of SFWMD Deputy General Counsel where she spent 15 years counseling governing board members about ethics and open government.
