FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Marc Solomon, partner at Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman served on the panel for the Association of Corporate Growth (ACG) South Florida Chapter on Exit Planning.

 

The panel discussed different exit planning strategies ranging from positioning a business for sale to a third party to successfully transferring a business to key employees or family members.

 

Solomon focuses a significant amount of his practice on representing clients in the acquisition and sale of businesses ranging in value from a million dollars to over fifty million dollars. Solomon helps his clients in exit-planning matters because he believes that the exit is the most important phase in the lifecycle of a company.  The exit is when the owner reaps the financial reward for all of the hard work and effort spent in building the business over many years or decades.

 

“A successful exit is more than the amount of the sale price,” said Marc Solomon. “It is about having control over the timing of the deal and the choice of the successor. It requires advance planning to build a better and stronger company in order to increase its market value. There are a variety of exit strategies which include a sale to a third party, a management buyout, a gift to children, a sale to employees and public offering among others,” added Solomon.

 

Solomon’s unique problem solving/deal making approach as a business advisor and transactional attorney comes in part from his experience in the corporate world.  Solomon was the owner of a trucking and logistics management services business and served as the in-house general counsel as well.  During his tenure, the company rolled-up and acquired more than 50 trucking and distribution businesses in the United States.

 

Solomon graduated with his bachelor’s degree in political science from Dickinson College and his JD from George Washington University. He is admitted to the Florida Bar.
