FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Broward County Bar Association (BCBA) has selected Valerie B. Barnhart to receive its 2016 Committee Chair Award for her leadership as Chair of the Bar’s Technology Committee. Ms. Barnhart is a Partner with the full-service business law firm Kelley Kronenberg and is based in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office. She also leads the firm’s newly launched Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. She will be recognized at the BCBA Annual Installation Dinner on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 Crystal Ballroom.
In her role as Chair of the newly formed Technology Committee, Ms. Barnhart oversaw the formation of the committee and the development of the BCBA Technology blog.
As a Partner with Kelley Kronenberg, Ms. Barnhart focuses her practice on business transactions, data privacy and security matters. Accredited by the International Association of Privacy Professionals, she is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM). Her practice involves advising clients in all aspects of business and risk management, such as data privacy and security, including compliance with data protection and privacy laws, contractual matters, corporate governance, purchase or sale of assets, non-compete agreements, formation of business entities, subcontractor agreements, customer contracts, shareholder agreements, and operating agreements.
Among her many industry leadership roles and association memberships, Ms. Barnhart is an elected representative for the 17th Circuit on the Florida Bar Board of Governors Young Lawyers Division. This year she spearheaded a women’s summit at the annual Florida Bar convention, which focused on educating female attorneys on how to build their brands, grow their book of business, gain equal respect in courtrooms and boardrooms, reach career goals, and achieve a better quality of life.
Additionally, Ms. Barnhart serves as the Florida Bar Board of Governors Young Lawyers Division’s Liaison to NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center. Earlier this year, Nova Southeastern University honored her with the “Alumni of the Year” award at the annual Student Life Achievement Awards (STUEYS).
