February 11, 2016– Alison Smith, partner at Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman, was installed as Chair of the Board of Directors of Legal Aid Service of Broward County and Coast to Coast Legal Aid.


Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s mission is to provide high quality free civil legal advice, representation and education to the disadvantaged of Broward County so as to improve the lifestyle and living conditions of the low income community and encourage self-sufficiency. Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida also works to improve the lives of low income persons in the community through advocacy, education, representation and empowerment.


Smith is a past president of the Caribbean Bar Association.  She is also on to the board of directors for the Broward County Bar and on the Leadership Development Committee for the Broward League of Cities.  She focuses her practice in the areas of labor and employment, commercial litigation and administrative and regulatory law, with direct experience handling cases involving civil rights and constitutional law claims. Smith serves as deputy city attorney for the City of Miramar.  She is admitted to the Florida Bar, U.S. District Court Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit.


She earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Nova Southeastern University School of Law.
